My friend josh has a nice new mel tool he has writen up on his
http://vfxcreator.com/  site.. check it out( he had not posted it here yet so I figured I would for him:)

here is a link to it in action:)

 jc_sketchPose v0.1 in development

Anyone remember the sketchPose tool that was shown by Disney at Siggraph 2004?  Well, I got a bug in me today that reminded me of it, and I wanted to try to replicate it.  I?ve done a pretty darn good job so far (amazingly simple!), but theres still a bit of functionality that needs to happen.   Still, this is a very cool script with a lot of potential.  Once it gets to a nice user friendly point, I?ll probably send it out to get some testing!

Originally uploaded by vfxcreator.

Fleshed out the UI for the tool today, and got the functionality working as
procs instead of just code to highlight and execute.

When you load up the tool, you can have your controls selected, or not. If
they are selected, they'll load into the list to show you what objects and
what order you're applying the pose to. The buttons for the list will allow
you to replace a new set of controls, key these controls, and select them.

Below are the buttons to draw the curve (image 1), and then the 'Apply Pose'
button (result in image 2).

Still have a bunch of stuff I need to add. but I'm happy with it so far.

Nice simple tool. Would be interesting to see how well it would intergrate with a full rig though.

hey everyone!

thanks for posting brad Wink

yeah, eventually it will be available for you guys, its just really early in development right now. (like maybe 2 days total time spent on it...)  i'll certainly do some more to it in the upcoming break, but lately i've had other things to get to.

i have a biiiiig list of 'must have additions' to add to it, and a bit of functionality tweakage to do, but i'd be happy to hear any other suggestions or what not Wink

Hey Josh!
Well I posted  a comment on your website, but i`ll post it here also.
I think it will be nice to have a third button called "KEY" or whatever, just to key the selected controls in the list, because .... from an animator point of view Cheesy hah! i think it will be much easier than to select the controls and key them after that. That way you just key what`s in the list, and that`s it.  What do you think ?

Yup!  That button is already there ("key list"), but isn't hooked up yet.

I'm playing with the idea of letting the user highlight the list of objects in that window, and then any operation (key button, or posing) gets applied to those only.  That way if you have the first 2 objects posed as you like, and you just want to sketch pose the last half of the list, you can quickly do that without replacing the full list.

Yeyy nice Cheesy didn`t noticed the button you have prepared there Smiley

and yes, nice idea about the highlighting too! Smiley Keep it up! I think it will turn woderfull tool. Btw at the moment i`m animating a bunch /maybe 15 and more/ tentacles with clusters... i won`t tell you what a pain is to move 10 clusters for one tentacle only. .. if i had something like that it would be much easier Smiley
